Ferentz Gets A Rare Cy-Hawk Win

By Adam Caparell - September 16, 2006

Good win for Iowa and Kirk Ferentz over Iowa State following their near debacle against lowly Syracuse in Week 2.

The Cyclones have had their relative way against the Hawkeyes under Ferentz. This is only his third win in eight games since he took over in Iowa City December 1998.

Drew Tate returned from his abdominal strain that kept him out against Syracuse and played relatively well. The Iowa running game looked to be in fine form as the Cyclones had problems slowing the rush. The Hawkeyes defense made some nice plays down the stretch against the pass.

No qualms from me about Iowa State going for it on 4th and 10 with over 5 minutes remaining. I thought it was a good call.

Iowa next has Illinois on the road, in what should be a rather easy win, and has two weeks before Ohio State visits in what will be a season defining game for both teams.

As a side note, Miami was just shown stomping on the Louisville field. They just guaranteed themselves a loss.
