Saturday's Predictions

By Adam Caparell - September 02, 2006

I've decided I'm going to pick five games each week and see how well I do for the season. I'll pick quality matchups, not games where one power is going to pound some lowly dredge.

So for Sat., Sept. 9 I like:

Cal (-2) over Tennesee
I like Cal's running game to establish itself over Tennesee's defense and immediately cause hysteria in Knoxville with Florida just two weeks away.

Notre Dame (-6.5) over Gerogia Tech
I like the Irish, but I think Tech will cover because of that Notre Dame defense that's ripe for the picking with the talented, but overlooked, Calvin Johnson.

USC (-8) over Arkansas
I like USC a lot. They're going to have a ton of talent, despite all the losses. Arkansas isn't going to have a fullly healthy and conditioned Darren McFadden. The Razorbacks will be hyped, but fall short.

TCU (-7) over Baylor
Why people are selling TCU short over Baylor in this game is above me. Baylor's been steadily improving year after year under Guy Morriss, but TCU is a better team than the Bears.

FSU (+3.5) over Miami
I like Miami in the ACC for the season, but Florida State for this game. Miami's defense is going to be one of the best in the nation, but as long as Florida State can establish some sort of rushing game, then I think Drew Weatherford can handle things just fine.
