Playing Like Dogs, Again

Another weekend full of upsets? It could be shaping up that way. Several early afternoon games have given us some scares and close calls. And we’ve gotten a few nice upsets as well.

- Nice win for Indiana over Iowa today in a big upset. The Hawkeyes came in as 19 point favorites on the road and Drew Tate miscue cost Iowa, once again. It’s a great story with coach Terry Hoeppner with his brain surgeries. Down 21-17, the Hoosiers battled back. They could ahve easily folded at that point in the fourth but they didn't. The coach deserves some big credit for that.

- Clearly, after the past two weeks the Georgia defense is not as good as we all thought. Giving up 23 points to Vanderbilt at ome from a team that came into the game letting up only an average of 14 per. It’s not a huge discrepancy but the Bulldogs defense was exploited through the air by Chris Nickson on several plays and they couldn’t make a stop at the end when they really needed to, a hallmark of a good defense.

The last time someone beat Georgia on Homecoming? Vanderbilt in 1994. It’s their second straight loss at home. Don’t be surprised if Georgia isn’t ranked tomorrow.

- How about Pat White breaking his own record for rushing yards by a Big East QB? 247 yards on the ground, 27 more than his own record from last season and 37 more than the previous record by a former Virginia Tech QB named Michael Vick.

White doesn’t get enough credit, in my opinion. Not only can he run the ball as well as any QB in the country, but he can also throw it as well. He’s as versatile a threat as there is in the game. People shouldn’t be surprised after watching him and the Mountaineers offense operate in last year’s Sugar Bowl, but I think they still are when his stats flash across the screen every Saturday, or sometimes Thursday.
