Too Many Mistakes

By Adam Caparell - October 07, 2006

JaMarcus Russell has to be the focal point for LSU to pull off this win at The Swamp. But Russell has a fumbled a snap right at the goal line and an interception, accounting for two of the Tigers three early turnovers. These mistakes are hurting LSU in a game they easily could have been leading at halftime. Just too many penalties and too many mistakes.

Not surprisingly, it’s been about the defenses for these two teams. The Tigers have done a decent job against Chris Leak - they need to keep the pressure on him. He’s having a much better game than he had against the Tigers last season, that’s for sure. Tim Tebow came in for some tough rushing yards in his usual role and actually bowled his way through the Tigers defense. Then came the “Jump Pass” that worked and was as awkward as anything I’ve ever seen, but it amazingly worked. Tebow pretty much can’t do anything wrong at this point as Florida heads into halftime with a seven point lead.

But again, this game is on the starting QBs. Neither team has a running game that’s going to dominate, especially against the defenses they’re going up against. Either Leak or Russell are going to win it with the plays they make. These last 30 minutes are on them, more so on Russell who’s about to prove if he can truly win a big one.

- Tommy Tuberville said his players gave good effort today? Seriously. Getting beat by 17 at home isn’t giving good effort in my opinion. Whether it’s on the coaches – as Tuberville blamed this loss on – or the players, falling to Arkansas with Florida coming up next week is inexcusable. Looks like the Tigers were overlooking the Razorbacks.
