Mighty, Mighty Smith

Well, first half impressions? Looks as if the better team is rising to the top. Troy Smith is 30 minutes away from locking up the Heisman Trophy and the Buckeyes are on their way to a win if things continue as is.

It’s not over yet, but the signs for the Buckeyes are positive. They’ve been able to get some pressure on Chad Henne and the fact that neither defense has played great bodes well for Ohio State more so than Michigan. Aside from that 52-yard TD scamper by Chris Wells, Michigan has done a good job against the run, but they haven’t done nearly as good a job against Smith and his arm.

I wasn’t expecting a low scoring game – both of these teams have plenty of talent on offense – but I didn’t expect it to start shaping up like a barn-burner. The over-under on this game 40.5 this morning and already Ohio State is only 12 points short of 40 itself.

Smith has really looked good so far. Precise and on his mark, he’s doing a great job spreading the ball around. It’s no surprise considering he plays so well in these big games and has torched the Wolverines in the past. He’s torching the Michigan secondary. Three touchdowns passes.

- Notre Dame broke out the green jerseys against Army today. They said it was for motivational purposes. Are we serious, here? I know it may not be the easiest game to get up for with USC looming next week, but with all that’s out there on the table for the Irish, if they need motivational ploys this late in the season, then forget about it. No disrespect to the Black Knights who are about as tough as it gets, but Notre Dame could beat Army in its sleep.

- Miami lost to Virginia, an awful Virginia team. How far have the Hurricanes fallen? Further than I ever could have imagined. So much for that pick earlier this year that the Hurricanes would be your ACC champs.
