Trojans On The Hardwood?

By Adam Caparell - February 23, 2007

INDIANAPOLIS - USC has a pretty good basketball team this year. But think about what they could have been like with Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith on the roster. It nearly happened.

Smith revealed that he and Jarrett seriously talked about playing for the Trojans basketball team after they got onto campus. And coach Pete Carroll wasn't necessarily against the idea. But Smith decided to concentrate on football instead of spreading himself thin. He likened football was to a job at USC.

Smith would have been a point guard for sure. Only measuring in at 5-foot-11, he's short for a receiver and short on the basketball court. But he got some looks from other Pac-10 teams to play basketball. USC is glad he chose to be a Trojan.

And Smith made sure he didn't sell his coach short on the basketball court. Apparently Carroll is a baller. Smith said Carroll has a nice shot and can be seen frequently playing pickup games with his coaching staff.
