There's been some discussion between Ole Miss and Texas about the possibly entering into a home-and-home series. Officials from both schools reportedly have been in negotiations for the two game set that would take place in 2012 and 13. The two haven't played since 1966 and Texas owns the all-time series lead with a 5-1 record.

- As if Nick Saban's hiring wasn't enough to attract recruits, Alabama has reached the halfway point on its fundraising quest of $100 million for facility renovations. It'll be an upset in these upcoming years if Alabama doesn't bring in the best in the South every year to Tuscaloosa.

- Of course this may not mean anything nowadays because you can't trust a coach's word, but Oregon State's Mike Riley had his contract extended through 2012.

- With New Orleans set to host both the Sugar Bowl and BCS Championship Game within about a week of each other next January, bowl game officials have reportedly assured BCS officials that hotels, game management, infrastructure and other areas will be good to go for the games at the Superdome.

New Orleans is far from recovered coming up on nearly two years since Hurricane Katrina. That was clearly evident during the Sugar Bowl in January as the city hosted its first big sporting event since the disaster. The city showed that's its off the mat, but still a long way off from winning the fight. Many restaurants and businesses haven't returned, the city's population has been cut in half and the areas outside downtown and the French Quarter - namely the Lower 9th Ward - are an absolute mess.

Take it from me. I got a chance to experience it all during the Sugar Bowl - the good and the very, very bad. New Orleans showed it can handle a big event, but it's far from a safe environment. You can't go walking around the city by yourself at night, you just never feel comfortable, and don't even think about venturing into the Lower 9th Ward on your own - something I learned the hard way, but fortunately lived to tell about.
