More Of Les

Just when you think the "Les Miles to Michigan" talk is a thing of the past the LSU coach issues a statement Tuesday declaring that the rumors about supposed conversations with his alma mater are nothing to get all hot and bothered about.

But what is Miles doing talking to Michigan after he signed a contract extension with the Tigers Thursday to remain as LSU's head coach?

The Detroit Free Press reported that Miles spoke Friday with Michigan AD Bill Martin and university president Mary Sue Coleman, but the coach has a seemingly logical explaination for it all.

"I had a conversation with Michigan last week that covered a wide range of topics," Miles said in the statement. "I was doing nothing more than helping them with their search for a football coach, just as any loyal alumnus might do. It was nothing more than that."

That's a litlte hard to believe, despite the fact Miles' new contract at LSU is still said to contain a $1.25 million buyout that he would have to pay if he leaves the TIgers for Michigan.

"I'm not a candidate for that job and I will not be a candidate for the job," Miles said. "I was only assisting them in their search for a coach. I have a great job at a wonderful place, a place that my family calls home. It's time that Michigan goes on with their search for a football coach. I'll say it again, I'm going to be the coach at LSU next season."

But what coach openly helps another program out, especially one with such a national presence like Michigan has, a program LSU figures to battle over a few recruits from time to time? Something still doesn't sit right with this situation. And notice how Miles has stated on more than one occasion how he's going to be the coach at LSU "next season" and not for the next two, three, four years. Or until his contract runs out in 2012?

This won't go away and all roads lead to one man.
