Davis Lands Coples, Quinn

By Adam Caparell - February 06, 2008

Second year UNC head coach Butch Davis has brought in more the big time talent as the Tar Heels just picked up official commitments from DL Quinton Coples (Tom Lemming No. 25) and DL Robert Quinn (Lemming No. 84).

"It's a great catch because right now they are minus stars," Lemming said. "Last year they got Greg Little and Marvin Austin. They had a good overall athletic class before Coples, but no knockout guys. Coples is their first knockout guy and he looked great at the U.S. Army All-American Game in San Antonio.

"He was one of the surprising players down there and I thought one of the top three pass rushers in the country."

Coples picked North Carolina over Tennessee and Florida State.

"North Carolina was always the leader and (UNC assoc. head coach) John Blake was recruiting him," Lemming said. "He'll be the end next to Marvin at tackle."

With North Carolina bringing in Coples and Quinn, it could propel the Tar Heels into Lemming's Top 25 classes very easily. Heading into Wednesday, UNC was sitting outside that magic number.
