Georgia Rules

Not only will Mark Richt enter the season as the head coach of one of the nation's top teams, he's going to also feature one of the nation's best freshmen classes after Georgia brought in some big names Wednesday, most notably wide out A.J. Green - Tom Lemming's 12th ranked player in the Class of 2008.

"He is a difference maker we think," Richt said on CSTV's Generation Next Signing Day Show. "There are some guys who need to mature a little bit physically before they can compete. I think he'll be able to compete faster than most because of his size and his strength.

"There are some spectacular catches this kid has made. A.J., for as high of a profile recruit as he was, was very solid on his commitment almost a year and a half ago. And he never wavered."

Also joining Green will be No. 46 DL DeAngelo Tyson and No. 59 OL/DL A.J. Harmon.

But the most important player to sign with Georgia is not a wide out or defensive lineman.

"One guy that might absolutely have to make an impact for us next year will be our kicker, Blair Walsh," Richt said.

Georgia lost a number of kickers to graduation - including Brandon Coutu - and a sophomore who quit the team.

"We have no one here in the spring and we have to wait for the fall to really find out, in earnest, who is going to be our kicker," Richt said.

Right now, Walsh is the clubhouse leader. National Signing Day Coverage
