You can file this one under ironic. Florida State received an award from the National Consortium for Academics & Sports at the orgainzation's conference last week.

Seems the group wanted to honor the Seminoles after they donated game tickets to 156,750 children around Tallahassee along with having FSU student-athletes serve well over 5,000 community volunteer hours.

Their generosity is certainly worth applauding, but you'd have to guess the organization decided to give the school the award prior to the three-dozen or so suspensions that were handed down before Florida State played Kentucky in the Music City Bowl because of revelations of widepread academic fraud and cheating.

Thursday Night Football: Thursday has become college football's Monday night and the national television schedule for this fall's mid-week showcase games are out. After a so-so beginning to the slate, it picks up starting in late September. The best dates are Sept. 25, Oct. 2, Oct. 23 and Nov. 27.
