A10-Billikens continue run

By Jacob Schwartzstein - May 26, 2006

St. Louis pitcher Eric Mueller came on in the ninth inning and shut down the Bonnies, striking out the side while walking one and not allowing a hit. His effort secured a 10-5 victory for the Billikens, who continue their Cinderella run in the A-10 tournament.

A few of the Bonnies looked clearly perturbed by the home plate umpire's calls in the ninth. Both Brian Pellegrini and Matt Mardeusz were called out on third strikes that appeared to be off the plate. After the final strike out, Mardeusz slammed his bat to the ground and yelled at the umpire, who already began to walk off the field. Pellegrini joined his teammate in yelling at the ump from the dugout, but to no avail.

With the victory, No. 5 seed St. Louis, which is 3-0 in the tournament so far, secured a spot in the finals tomorrow afternoon. The Bonnies will now have to return to the field tonight to play in an elimination game against the winner of the Rhode Island-George Washington game at 3:30.
