A10-GW comes back in the 9th

By Jacob Schwartzstein - May 26, 2006

Down 5-3 entering the ninth inning, GW continued its improbable comeback against the top seeded Rams, scoring two to tie it up.

If GW goes on to win this contest, the play of the game will undoubtedly be Colonial rightfielder Mickey Shupin's diving catch in the bottom of the eighth inning to preserve the two run deficit. With a man on second and one out, a fly ball to right-centerfield was tracked down by Shupin, who made a full leap- a web gem in my book. The GW faithful gave him a well-deserved standing ovation; even some Rams fans cheered.

In the top of the ninth, pinch hitter Doug Eizen singled with one out off Palanski. Shanley followed that up with a single and pinch runner Matt Boyd moved to third. Leftfielder Charlie Kruer then had an rbi single. That would end Palanski's night, as Tom Venedam came in for relief. After a passed ball, Shupin again played role of hero with a sacrifice fly to right.

We are now officially into the 10th inning, marking the first extra-inning game of the tournament.
