A10-NoNo gets robbed

By Jacob Schwartzstein - May 24, 2006

A misplayed ball by Billikens third baseman B.J. Rodrigue ends Bird's no-hit bid.

I know it's only the third inning, but Bird may have gotten robbed on an error that was scored a hit. A ground ball hit to the left side of Rodrigue bounced under his glove and into left field. Was it a tough play? Sure, but a play that should have been made nonetheless. Bird finished off the inning without allowing anyone else to reach base. Potentially, he could be a third of the way to a no-hitter.

Meanwhile, McDaid struggled to get an out in the top of the fourth. Three straight hits, a sac bunt and another hit led to two runs, though a nifty 5-4-3 double play helped the Niners get out of the inning without anymore damage.
3-0 Billikens entering the bottom of the fourth.
