A10-Rumble in the Bronx

By Jacob Schwartzstein - May 24, 2006

The six-team, double elimination Atlantic 10 baseball tournament is finally underway at Fordham University in the Bronx, with first year A10 teams No. 4 seed Charlotte and No. 5 Saint Louis leading it off. After a few cool, very windy days in New York, it's safe to say these teams lucked out with a perfect day for baseball, 67 degrees and sunny with not much wind; it should help out the outfielders.

I said, SHOULD help out the outfielders. After allowing a leadoff single in the top of the first, Charlotte 49ers pitcher Derek McDaid retired the next two batters before a flyball to right-center field was dropped by right fielder Spencer Steedley after running into center fielder Chris Lane, allowing a run to score.
In the bottom of the inning, Saint Louis Billikens pitcher Ryan Bird retired the Niners 1-2-3.
1-0 Billikens after one.
