A10-St. Louis fans rockin'

By Jacob Schwartzstein - May 24, 2006

St. Louis is well known for having great baseball fans, and the Billikens' faithful are showing why.

The crowd here at Houlihan Park is not very big, with fans scattered in the seats behind home plate, but the Billikens' fans seem to be passing their great energy along to their team, while Charlotte fans sit virtually silent. It's like Yankee Stadium's bleacher creatures versus the corporate types sitting at field level. Whether the St. Louis fans are actually having a positive affect is debateable, but the Billikens appear more lively than the Niners, as everyone in the St. Louis dugout stands along the railing, even yelling "Back!" in unison when Niners' McDaid attempts to pickoff the Billikens' Musselman at first base. Reminds me of a little league team just excited to be on the sandlot instead of in the classroom.
Bird and first baseman Tim Landy just combined on a great play, with Landy tossing the ball to Bird just in time to get the Niners' Taylor O'Brien. The crowd goes wild.

After six, Billikens-3, Niners-1
