ACC: Best play of the day (Clemson scores to go up 3-2)
By Eric Sorenson - May 27, 2006
The last two days I've noticed the wicked gun that Georgia Tech right fielder Wally Crancer possesses and the blazing speed of many of the Tiger baserunners.
So with leadoff man Herman Demmink on second base and clean-up man Tyler Colvin at the dish, sure enough a play at the plate was what I was hoping for.
Colvin slapped a single through the right side of the infield and Crancer came up gunning. Demmink rounded third. I was sitting in the lower grandstand, right in line with the throw. That bullet barely seemed to skim the ground as it left a vapor trail toward home plate. But Demmink was just fast enough to slide under jacket Catcher Andy Hawranick's sweeing tag, which ended up hitting Demmink's keaster.
Safe! But great play all the way around. Clemson up 3-2 going into the bottom of the 4th.
