Big 12: Best in Show -- the Fiesta Dog
By Glenn Tanner - May 25, 2006
Brilliant artistic inspiration reveals itself in many different forms. Leonardo da Vinci created the Mona Lisa. Michaelangelo created David. And Heather Misialek created the Fiesta Dog.
Several years ago, Oklahoma City’s minor league team asked its fans to send in their favorite hot dog recipes. The winning entry was Misialek’s Fiesta Dog. According to the advertisement in the press elevator, the Fiesta Dog consists of a large hot dog bun stuffed with “an all-meat frank, refried beans, and ground beef, topped with nacho cheese sauce, salsa, and sour cream.” It sells for $4.50, but I’m willing to bet you’ll pay a lot more for it later, if you know what I mean.
I found a stand where this masterpiece is sold, but the vendor could not supply me with any nutritional information on it and suggested that it’s probably better not to know. He also estimated that the traditional Chicago-style dogs outsell the Fiesta Dog by about a 10-to-1 ratio. Whether that’s because of taste, or because emergency angioplasties limit the number of Fiesta Dog repeat customers is anyone’s guess.
Right now I’m too stuffed on press box brisket to even think about eating a Fiesta Dog, but I’m not leaving town until I try one.
Texas and Baylor start at 5pm. Last year, Baylor swept three regular season games from the Longhorns then eliminated them from the Big 12 Tournament. Texas got revenge in Omaha, beating Baylor twice, including the unforgettable game ended by Chance Wheeless’ Kirk Gibson imitation. This year, Texas swept three from the Bears in mid-April.
Nebraska and Tech will play the nightcap.
According to the game notes, it’s currently 97 degrees with 13-17 mph winds blowing straight out to center.
