Big 12: Mizzou Run-Rules OU, 11-0
By Glenn Tanner - May 26, 2006
Missouri pushed across four runs in the 7th inning to end this one early. The final three runs came on catcher JC Field's wind-blown 3-run homer to left.
Field, the Tigers’ 9-hole hitter, came into the game batting .206 and slugging only .282, but he totaled five RBI, including the game-enders. Max Scherzer struck out five in the first three innings, then put it on cruise control. OU had only four hits.
This was OU’s 4th game in Bricktown Ballpark this season. The Sooners lost two Bedlam Series games against OSU by scores of 7-0 and 4-0. They lost Wednesday to Kansas 7-2. Today’s 11-0 rout makes them 0-4 with a 29-2 run differential in Bricktown. I still expect them to show up for tomorrow’s game against Oklahoma State.
Today’s loss was especially uncharacteristic. The Sooners have led the nation in fielding percentage for most of the season, but today their 2B, 3B, and SS committed errors on routine balls with men on base, leading to eight unearned runs.
Missouri is making a strong case for an at-large tournament bid. The Tigers lost seven in a row in April, but swept Texas last weekend and have beaten two potential #1 seeds in this tournament. A win over Kansas tomorrow puts the Tigers into Sunday’s Big 12 championship game.
Oklahoma State and Kansas have just started.
