Big 12: Nebraska Beats Baylor 3-2

By Glenn Tanner - May 24, 2006

Nebraska got a game-tying homer from Jeff Christy in the 7th and a 2-out run-scoring single from Andrew Brown in the 8th to edge Baylor 3-2.

Little-used Matt Sullivan pinch hit for Luke Gorsett with two out and none on in the eighth. Sullivan drew a walk and was replaced by pinch-runner Bryce Nimmo, who advanced to second on a critical wild pitch before Brown delivered his hit.

Baylor nearly tied it in the 9th. Facing Husker closer Brett Jensen, Beamer Weems hit a ball that looked to be heading for the seats, but left-fielder Nick Jaros appeared to reach above the fence and knocked it back into play. (Edit: just walked out there and talked to a fan sitting in left field -- the ball hit the small wire-mesh part of the fence above the padding; about a foot away from tying it.) Weems ended up with a double, but was stranded there.

The rest of today's schedule:
Texas vs. Tech, originally scheduled for 1pm, now 1:36 pm
OU vs. Kansas, 5pm
OSU vs. Missouri, 8pm

A 45-minute break is required between games, so don't expect those later starting times to be accurate.
