Big 12: Not sure how this will affect the tiebreakers, but...

By Glenn Tanner - May 25, 2006

Nebraska and Tech are locked in a good one. 3-2 Tech after five innings.

Tech gave JC transfer Aaron Odom just his seventh career start and it looked like a bad decision at first, as the Huskers' first two batters of the game got hits and came around to score. But first baseman Patrick Smart, getting only his third start of the year, tied the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second, and teammate Roger Kieschnick added a solo shot the next inning.

Odom got himself in all kinds of trouble in the top of the 5th, walking the bases loaded, but CF Brian Capps saved him on the play of the tournament so far. With one out, Nebraska's Ryan Wehrle cracked a sinking line drive to center that looked like it would drop. Capps not only caught the ball on the dead run, but he also unleashed a strike to home to nail a Nebraska runner attempting to tag and score.

Husker ace Joba Chamberlain looked hittable early, but has recorded the last four outs on K's.
