Big East: Louisville fans in the house

By Barry Loudis - May 26, 2006

Much to my enjoyment "Mrs. #5" is back to watch the Cardinals take on Rutgers this morning in the Big East Tournament.

Even better is that she brought her friends.

Back to the game at hand, I have got to take a moment to talk about a certain player on the Louisville Cardinals squad. Shortstop Chris Cates listed at 5-foot 3-inches in the media guide. Frankly there is no way that the junior from Brandon, Florida is taller than 5-foot. However, and more importantly, he plays like he is 6-foot 4. He is nimble, has a good arm and has the speed. In the words of a Big East umpire, who I chatted with today about him, "he has the tools to play at the next level, he just has to be able to hit." I thought that these were great words for the young man. Not to mention, think about how hard it is to strike this kid out. His attitude on the field is great too. Eight times out of 10 he is the first one to yell words of encouragement at the other players. I hope he makes it to the pros in a year. Would be nice to see him give it his all on the MLB diamond.

Now in the top of the third, Louisville has a commanding 6-0 lead on Rutgers.
