CUSA: Finally a Crooked Number
By Jeremy Mills - May 25, 2006
After putting up single runs in four straight innings, Tulane erupted for three runs in the 6th to take a 7-1 over Marshall entering the 7th inning.
The Green Wave offense batter Herd starter Jeremy Slone for thirteen hits over his 5 1/3 innings, and greeted reliever Brian Chrisman with a single up the middle before he recorded a sacrifice fly and strikeout to end the sixth inning. Every Tulane starter except 9-hole hitter Ty Wallce has recorded a hit, and Brad Emaus extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a but single in the second. The ball travelled about half as far as the second baseman's bat, which he threw past his third base coach on the previous pitch. Two Wave batters have gone deep, as Tim Guidry hit his fourth longball of the season in the 4th and conference player of the year Mark Hamilton hit his 18th home down the leftfield line in the 5th.
Marshall scratched out their lone run of the game in the 5th inning. Aaron Levinson led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, third on a groundout, and scored on an infield single by Adam Frederick. The first highlight of the game for the Herd came in the 3rd inning, when Chris Monaco stole two bases to set the Marshall career record with 60 thefts. Rich Russell entered the record book in the 5th, when he was hit by his 22nd pitch of the season to tie the C-USA record.
