CUSA: Wasted Opportunities

By Jeremy Mills - May 25, 2006

Both teams have littered the bases with runners over the first two innings, but only Tulane has been able to push anyone home and leads 2-0 in the bottom of the 3rd.

Matt Riser led off the game with a double for Tulane, but was stranded at third -- a theme that would permeate the first two innings.

Green Wave starter Brandon Gomes struggled with his control in the bottom half of the frame. Three walks sandwiched around a strikeout of the Herd's best hitter (Brendan Murphy) left the bases loaded with two outs. Gomes was able to wiggle out of trouble by striking out Brent Mason to end the inning.

Tulane strung together three hits in the second inning to load the bases with one out. Ty Wallace drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to leftfield to score Brad Emaus, but the Wave left two more runners on base.

The Green Wave staged a two-out rally in the third to take a 2-0 lead. Mark Hamilton singled up the middle and scored on a Nathan Southard triple to the wall in centerfield to bring the boisterous Wave faithful to their feet. Which led to the first Hullabaloo Cheer of the day:

A One, A Two,
A Helluva
Hullabaloo
A Hullabaloo
Ray Ray
A Hullabaloo
Ray Ray
Hooray
Hooray
Vars Vars Tee Ay
Tee Ay, Tee Ay
Vars Vars Tee Ay
Tulane!
