CUSA: Wave Capsizes Pirates in Tenth

Warren McFadden hit a grounder under the second baseman's glove to score Matt Riser, and the Tulane Green Wave held on to defeat East Carolina 2-1 in 10 innings on Friday afternoon.
Matt Riser led off the top of the tenth with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Warren McFadden grounded through the infield in the top of the tenth. East Carolina managed a two-out single in the bottom of the frame, but cleanup hitter Adam Witter grounded to second on the first pitch to end the contest. Tulane improves to 41-18 on the season and will play Houston tomorrow at 9:00. East Carolina is elimintated from the tournament with a 33-26 record, and will likely miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998.
Daniel Latham pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the Wave to pick up his fifth victory of the season. T.J. Hose also recorded five outs, but drops to 3-4 on the season. Both starters were masterful, with Billy Mohl scattering seven hits and allowing one run over 6 innings for Tulane, while Shane Mathews went a career-high 8 1/3 innings and allowed a single run on eight hits.
Before driving in the winning run, McFadden was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on the afternoon. Both teams recorded 10 hits and left nine runners on base, and neither recorded an error in the just under three hour contest.
The second game of the day will start around 6:50, with Ben Grisham (1-2, 4.79) taking the hill for Memphis while Southern Miss counters with Cliff Russum (7-5, 4.19)
