SEC: Chickin' Dance

By Jessica Garrison - May 27, 2006

While Ole Miss leads Alabama 7-2 in the fifth and the stadium officials open the doors to the next session's ticketholders due to "extreme heat" I must comment on a certain jingle by a much loved major sponsor of this event that is quickly making me HATE SINGING COWS.

At least once a game a large cow mascot and two handlers get on top of the dugout, and the jumbotron plays the insidiously infectious dancing cow song with bouncing ball lryics that you, too, can sing along to:

EAT MOR CHIKIN!
KAN YOU DO IT? YES YOU KAN!
DON'T EAT BURGERZ!
COWZ WIL B YER BIGGEST FANS!

Look this was mildly cute the first time, somewhat creepy the second, and by the 18th time, it was downright disturbing. Not to mention displaying a flagrant disregard for all principles of spelling and grammar in the English language. This is a family event! Who's to blame when these children start pluralizing with z's. People all over the stadium, press box, parking lot are humming this jingle...there has to be something sinister and subliminal going on here.

Also, I am extremely skeptical about the validity of Chick-fil-A's tagline, "We didn't invent chicken, just the chicken sandwich". Can this be independently verified??

And yet, after consuming one (1) Chick-fil-A chicken biscuit for breakfast and one (1) Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich for lunch, bringing my weekend total to four (4) Chick-fil-A supplied meals on the weekend, I have to admit, when you ace the chicken sandwich, you can get away with most anything. Yum.

Chick-fil-a does have the "We didn't invent chicken, just the chicken sandwich". Trademarked

Plus they did sue Burger King claiming they invented the Chicken Sandwhich in 2001 - Burger king had to stop those ads.

Haven't found any difinitve independent verification yet

It is unfortunate that the cows can't spell.

But yes Chick-fil-A did invent the chicken sandwich. Actually it was S. Truett Cathy who invented the sandwich. Truett opened his first restaurant in 1946. His customers demanded a chicken product that could be ready in minutes. He used boneless skinless chicken breasts and devised a cooking process that cooked the chicken in under 5 minutes. He used his customer base to help taste his product and give feedback on flavor profiles.

He actually had Colonel Sanders selling his sandwich in KFC stores. After a few years Truett took back the sandwich because he was not pleased with the quality standards in KFC. This prompted Truett to start the restaurant called Chick-fil-A, which is named after the sandwich he invented. (side note--he entered the sandwich in a world competition and it didn't even place) In the 60s Truett pioneered food courts and opened the first eatery in a mall. Atlanta's Greenbrier Mall was the first Chick-fil-A ever. Truett was the first with the chicken sandwich....which is why his company can claim, "We didn't invent the chicken, just the chicken sandwich."

2nd side note....Chick-fil-A was the first company to release chicken nuggets!
