SEC: Wildcats' Whopping Deficiit

By Jessica Garrison - May 25, 2006

I made my way to the stands for the fifth and sixth innings, just to see exactly how hot it really is down there. For Kentucky, down 13-8 in the 7th, the heat is most definitely on.

The Wildcats are now on their sixth pitcher in almost as many innings, trying to chip away at a 10-5 deficit. Their last bright spot was first baseman Ryan Streiby's solo home run in the fifth. Kentucky has managed one run an inning all game, which would be just fine if not for Georgia's scorching hot bats. The 'Dogs are making a real habit of threading the holes between Kentucky fielders with these low-flying zingers, cranking out a five-run fourth inning, a four-run fifth and a three-run seventh.. Even from my castle of journalistic objectivity I'd like to see Kentucky stop the bleeding, but until they can find a hurler to put it over the plate and past a few Georgia batters, it looks like it could be a long ride back to Lexington tonight.

As for the weather, it's not nearly as bad as it looks from the press box. There is a nice breeze, one that definitely favors anything hit to left field. I stayed down there on the field until the sun was just too much for my pale New York skin and the lure of Arby's roast beef sandwiches drew me back upstairs. Horsey Sauce must not be denied.
