Athens: Arrived and Ready!

By - June 09, 2006

After 14 hours of tough driving, including traffic jams in Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, and Chattanooga, I have arrived in Athens, and the adrenaline of covering this SEC battle far exceeds any fatigue from the trip!

This is my first time to Athens, and I am definitely impressed. Athens is a beautiful city and I can see why so many HS seniors choose Georgia, and why so many alums love coming back here. Tonight, it's time to go out and find the stadium, get a lay of the land, and meet some of the people in this energetic town. Tomorrow, it's time for BASEBALL!

I loved covering Fayetteville's Regional mostly due to the drama in most every game. The teams left it out on the field, and showed fans time and again why this tournament and this sport are so special to the American landscape. This Super Regional has the buildup to match the drama from last week. Not only is this a conference battle, but UGA and South Carolina are in the same division; playing every year for bragging rights. The fight for Omaha between two border states will bring forth an intensity that you rarely find in sports. This is not only a battle for Omaha, this is for year-long bragging rights, recruiting battles, and the morale of two fan bases who avidly follow their teams as if they are part of their own families.

I look forward to joining all of you in watching this Super Regional unfold...this is baseball at its finest, and I can't wait to get started!

Wow, that kind of drive sounds more like DIII to me. I had visions of you allflying the skies between Regionals and Super Regionals. By experience, we in DIII, get to go by camel (a slight exaggeration) I don't envy that drive. I have done parts of it myself!!
