Athens: Warming Up for Day 2

By - June 11, 2006

It's a picture perfect day in Athens, though it could be a little cooler (it got up to 99 degrees at noon today). Georgia and South Carolina are warming up for Day 2 of the Athens Super Regional here at Foley Field.

Today, Georgia tries to extend their season, while South Carolina looks to make reservations in Omaha. Taking the mound for the Bulldogs is Brooks Brown (7-4), a junior RHP. Brown is typically a very aggressive pitcher who challenges batters to hit off of him. Meanwhile, South Carolina sends freshman RHP Matt Cisco (7-4) to the mound.

Georgia's fans are out in full force, and from talking to many of them, they seem focused and pumped up to seek revenge for the 15-6 beating they took yesterday from USC. The Gamecok bus arrived at 1:45 pm local time, and the Gamecock players were very relaxed, laughing and joking with each other as they piled out and through the third base gate to take batting practice.

This SEC East rivalry was intense before this series. Now, with an angry UGA crowd, a determined Bulldog team, and a South Carolina club ready to book tickets to Rosenblatt Stadium, this game promises intensity at the highest of levels. We'll be set to go in 15 minutes!
