Atlanta: Things to do in Atlanta

By Craig Jackson - June 09, 2006

Well, I got in to Atlanta on the redeye. Which means I drove in after work today, and just go to the hotel!

If you are in town for the GT-CoC matchup this weekend, you are definitely going to be in for some fine baseball. The good thing about Super Regionals, is that there is only one game per day. The BAD thing about Super Regionals is that there is only one game per day. So what to do with the spare time in the morning, and late afternoon/evening.

First of all, make plans to eat at The Varsity (http://www.thevarsity.com) This place is world famous: the world's largest drive-in. Go in and order a couple of chili dogs loaded, and forget it is junk food. Nothing fancy. Just a plain old drive in, but for baseball purists, it is a must. Open 10:00 AM to 12:30 AM Friday-Sunday. Guess where my pre-game meal will be Friday!

For after the game, try the Cafe Tu Tu Tango ( http://www.cafetututango.com/) A fun place to unwind after the game. Fun and food for everyone. Decent prices.

Of course, there is also the Coca Cola Museum, Stone Mountain, Atlanta Underground and the Georgia Aquarium. Of if you want, just visit the Olympic Centennial Park and have a late picnic with the family.

All in all, if you are looking for things to do before and after the games, there is plenty to do.

I am going to grab some much needed shut eye for now, as that 12 noon start will be here before you know it. Forecast is for temps between 79-86 during the game, with wind out of the NW 4 to 7 MPH. Chance of rain 0%. Chance of Sunburn 70%.

Good luck Yellowjackets and Cougars.
