Austin: Free Baseball!

In a development that today’s Stanford-Texas loser will later look upon fondly, UT-Arlington and North Carolina State are headed to extra innings tied at five.
Both teams had chances to win it in the 9th. The Wolfpack stranded two runners in the top of the ninth and the Mavericks mounted an immediate threat in the bottom of the inning.
Pinch-hitter David Newby led off the ninth and got plunked by a 1-2 pitch. Kyle Rudy tried to sacrifice him to second, but fouled off one attempt and took a called strike two. Rudy then blooped a single that moved Newby to third with none out. With the infield playing in, NC State got an out on a grounder to third, and after an intentional walk to load the bases, new reliever Joel Brookens induced a 6-4-3 double play.
It’s the second consecutive inning that UTA had a runner on third with none out but couldn’t score.
ARGH!!! I just noticed that my scorebook has no room for extra innings! Oh well, I’m having fun now…

NC State's coach just said he had no idea who they'd pitch tomorrow. Said he had planned on starting Surkamp, but had to use him in relief today. Said Hobson, who started yesterday, will probably get the ball.
