Austin: Greg Reynolds, As Advertised

By Glenn Tanner - June 02, 2006

After seven innings, Stanford leads NC State 6-1. It makes a guy feel good when he focuses his pre-game writeup on one player, and that player comes out and dominates the game. Thanks, Greg Reynolds.

NC State scratched together three consecutive two-out hits in the 6th to push across their first run, but before that Reynolds went through an un-hittable stretch. The Wolfpack opened the bottom of the 2nd with their first hit and a walk, but Reynolds retired the next 13 hitters in a row before giving up an infield single. Reynolds throws extremely hard and the Wolfpack hitters have had trouble getting around on him, repeatedly hitting inside fastballs to the opposite field. Reynolds’ fastball appears to have good movement, too, as NC State cleanup hitter Jon Still swung at a pitch that appeared to hit him. Completely flustered, Still took a fastball down the middle for strike three on the next pitch.

I’m sitting next to the Stanford radio announcer. He’s a student, and he looks like he’s still a teenager. He’s also REEEEALLY good. Find the Stanford internet broadcast and have a listen so that it 10 years when he’s announcing Dodger games you can tell people you heard him way back when.

That Stanford announcer is Alex Gyr. Stanford usually has pretty good folks in the booth, but Gyr is a standout. The radio station is http://kzsulive.stanford.edu. - Tony
