Chapel Hill: Dodging A Bullet
By Bryan Graham - June 03, 2006
North Carolina broke through against Winthrop righty Alex Wilson in the third inning. With one out, Mike Cavassini legged out an infield single (for the second time this afternoon) and Reid Fronk followed with an RBI double to even the score at one apiece.
Josh Horton flied out, but Chad Flack singled to drive home the go-ahead run.
Then Jay Cox -- fresh off Friday night's five-RBI explosion against Maine -- ripped a fastball off the wall in left-center that had Flack sprinting toward second on contact. With Mike Fox (doubling as third-base coach) waving the runner home, centerfielder Tommy Lentz executed a perfect throw to shortstop Matt Repec. Repec relayed to catcher Alan Robbins, who applied the tag to the sliding Flack for the third out: an 8-6-2 putout that momentarily deflated the Carolina crowd.
Heels lead, 2-1.
