Chapel Hill: Don't Call It A Comeback

By Bryan Graham - June 04, 2006

How rapidly things have unraveled for UNC Wilmington in the visitor's ninth!

The dormant Winthrop offense awakened for three runs on four base hits in the frame, and put the pressure squarely on the Seahawks.

Jeff Schaffer and Chris Carrara led off the inning with back-to-back singles off UNCW reliever Adam Paul. Heath Rollins grounded out to Paul, advancing the runners but recording the first out.

Paul issued Jacob Dempsey an intentional base on balls to set up the force, but Matt Repec made the Seahawks pay with an RBI single to centerfield that tied the score at three apiece.

Phil Carey then legged out an infield single that drove home a run to give Winthrop its first lead of the game at 4-3. Ben Ehrlich subsequently slapped a slow roller to short -- grounding out but driving home a third run.

Adam Paul then got Mitch Saum out to end the inning. The UNC Wilmington fan section -- so boisterous just 10 minutes ago -- has fallen dead silent.
