Chapel Hill: Saint Paul

By Bryan Graham - June 04, 2006

Winthrop evened the score in the top of the eighth -- but it could have been worse for the Seahawks than it was.

After Jacob Dempsey and Matt Repec led off the inning with consecutive singles, UNCW's Zach Booker was able to coax Phil Carey into popping out. But when the junior righty walked Ben Ehrlich to load the bases with one out, coach Mark Scalf inserted Adam Paul to put out the fire.

The Raleigh, N.C., native surrendered a sacrifice fly to Alan Robbins -- which tied the score at two apiece -- before fanning Mitch Saum looking to end the inning with runners stranded on first and second.
