Chapel Hill: UNC Hangs Six-Spot On Eagles

By Bryan Graham - June 04, 2006

If Winthrop hopes to extend its season beyond sundown, it's going to require a miraculous comeback.

The Tar Heels just batted around in the top of the fourth, hanging six runs on the Eagles and opening a comfortable 8-0 advantage.

It all started when Winthrop righty Ryan Schwartz surrendered the longest home run of the weekend (so far), when Benji Johnson tattooed a fastball that cleared the fence in left-center by at least 50 feet. It ended when Johnson popped out to second base.

In between, highlights included Chad Flack's two-RBI double to rightfield, Jay Cox's RBI groundout and Tim Federowicz's two-run home run to the deepest part of the Bosh.

With his leadoff homer, Johnson reclaims sole possession of the team lead for round-trippers (13), which Cox had tied Saturday evening.

(Meanwhile, it doesn't bode well for the Eagles that Carolina starter Daniel Bard's fastball is still clocking at 95 mph.)
