Charlottesville: Hoos Next?

By Elliot Olshansky - June 02, 2006

You know, now that we're going here, the weather really isn't that bad. Playing later in the day, that nasty heat has died down significantly, and I'm actually feeling a nice breeze. Of course, that might have something to do with sitting right under the fan in this improvised press box - one of the luxury suites is acommodating overflow - with the front and back doors both open for cross-ventilation.

Of course, Lehigh isn't liking the effects of the rain one little bit.

The crew here did a great job getting the tarp down to take care of the infield, but the warning track is pretty nasty. Mountain Hawks left fielder David Moscow found that out the hard way, taking a nasty fall, which turned Sean Doolittle's tough, but catchable ball into a double that advanced Brandon Marsh to third.

David Adams sent them both home with a triple, then came home himself on a double by Brandon Guyer. Tom Hagan popped out to third, but Raniszewski hit Jeremy Farrell with a pitch, and it's goodnight to Mr. Raniszewski. For purely selfish reasons, I'm not terribly disappointed, because I don't know how many more times I could type "Raniszewski" without messing it up.

Senior southpaw Jed Davitt is now trying his stuff against the home team. He got out of the inning without further damage - thanks in part to a wonderful diving catch by Nick Bet - but Virginia is still scoring in every inning. If that continues in the fifth, this thing will, in all likelihood, be over.
