Charlottesville: Hot Hawks
By Elliot Olshansky - June 03, 2006
For the second day in a row, the Mountain Hawks come out of the gate strong. They lead 2-0 after the first inning. Time will tell if they'll be able to hold onto that lead, but they're looking pretty strong so far.
Joe Ercolano singled to start things off. He's certainly showing himself to be a good leadoff man, he's led off both of his games this weekend with a hit. Ercolano advanced to second on a blak, and then was driven in by Matt Geiger on a double to left, which also saw Geiger advance to third on an error. Geiger then came home on a sac fly by Matt McBride, who threatened another homer with his shot to left.
Virginia coach Brian O'Connor was full of praise for McBride after last night's game, and it's not hard to see why. His team leads, 2-0, after one at Davenport, as the Purple Aces threaten a two-out rally, but come up short with a shallow fly to center by Pat Tumilty.
