Charlottesville: Ouch!

By Elliot Olshansky - June 03, 2006

Rough moment for Evansville right now. Robbie Minor grounded to Lehigh pitcher Joe Matteo, and even though Matteo bobbled the ball, he was able to throw Minor out at first...or was he?

One of my fellow writers here in the press box made a snide remark about Minor not running hard, only for us to look up and see Minor sitting down outside the baseline in serious discomfort. Something had to be up with that: after all, it was Minor's hard running that prevented South Carolina's infield from picking up another double play in the first game.

Sure enough, upon further review, it turned out that Minor was hit by the pitch, which would tend to explain both his lack of speed and his pain. Minor has stayed in the game, though, and is giving Matteo something to think about, taking sizable leads from first.
