Charlottesville: Still At Six

By Elliot Olshansky - June 04, 2006

So much for moving the game time...it'll be a 6 p.m. start tomorrow between the Gamecocks and the Purple Aces, with the winner claiming the regional title. That wasn't a popular choice with the South Carolina writers, who'd like to get out of town early, but since I'm still here tomorrow night no matter what, it's fine by me.

Pitching matchups for tomorrow are uncertain, as neither coach was particularly eager to tip his hand. Schrage made some mention of Kai Tuomi, who started the MVC title game for the Aces, as a possibility, and freshman Will Atwood was mentioned for the Gamecocks, but we won't know for sure until tomorrow night.

I'd have to favor Evansville tomorrow night. They certainly got a ton of help in this one, as only six of their 15 runs were earned, but that's still more earned runs than the Gamecocks had. The Aces have been seeing the ball well, and I wouldn't expect that to change to much. I'd say that if Tuomi, or whoever else the Aces send out, can have a solid outing, he should have enough run support to bring the regional title to Evansville.

But don't take my word for it. There's a reason why they play these games. I'll see you all back here tomorrow evening.

Congrats to the Purple Aces (UE, Class of '95). Who knows what tomorrow brings, but for the program, this was a hell of a day.

12 runs in one inning. Holy cow.

Good Luck to Coach Schrage and the Aces Monday night. This weekend has been the best for U.E. baseball since Andy Benes shut out #1 Arizona St. in the NCAA's back in the eighties.
