Charlottesville: Tap, Tap, Tapperoo

More trouble for the Cavaliers, as a grounder to short proves too hot for Greg Miclat to handle, which allowed Cheyne Hurst to score, but that's not the most interesting item from the bottom of the eighth.
First of all, the play where Hurst scored was a pretty tight play at the plate. It was clean enough for me to be pretty sure that Jeff Head got the call right, but it's also close enough for the UVA fans to want to get on his case about it, especially since the Cavaliers were already down five.
A timeout followed soon thereafter, and as Brian O'Connor trotted out to the mound, he gave Head a little tap on the butt, as if to say, "I know you had it right." Still, I've never seen a manager pat an ump on the butt. Anyone else ever seen that? Player, yes. Ump, no.
Also, there are some fireworks going on in the distance, off past the first baseline, part of UVA's reunion celebrations, which gave the Hoos much more cause for excitement than anything their team did.
