Clemson: And when the dust had settled.....

By Craig Jackson - June 03, 2006

THe Bulldogs of Mississippi State survived to play again on SUnday. Final score MSU 5, UNC Ashville 4. Justin Pigott gets the save for MSU. Exciting finish to an exciting game.

Bottom of the 9th, Pigott puts first 2 on. Number 9 hitter comes up and lays down perfect bunt to load the bases. No outs. Top of order comes up, and MSU defense goes to double play depth. Sharp grounder to Rea at second drives in run, but the toss to Berkerey is in time for the force at second, and the relay eats the runner to first to complete the DP. Next hitter up drives ball to Rea at second for routine ground out to first.

You know, I watched Ashville take on 2 teams from 2 top D1 conferences today and play hard and long. both Clemson and MSU knew they had a fight on their hands. Ashville loses both games by a total of 4 runs. Tip of the caps to UNC Ashville and their departure from the Clemson regional.

Next up for this regional: Clemson versus Elon at 7 PM. Should be a slobberknocker. MSU takes the night off and prepares for the loser of the Clemson-Elon game tomorrow at 3 PM.
