Clemson: Clemson Wrapup
By Craig Jackson - June 05, 2006
Well, it's over, and Hail Clemson, winner of the 2006 Clemson Regional.
The Tigers swept thru the regional undefeated, to advance to the Super REgional next weekend, when they will host Oral Roberts. The tigers used timely hitting and pitching to subdue a tenacious bunch of Bulldogs from MSU. after striking for 3 runs in the first, the Tigers held on for an 8-6 win. State actually came back to take a 5-4 lead in the 6th, only to have Clemson retake the lead in the 7th.
Clemson is one of those teams that has a rare blend of power, speed, small ball, and defense, with a heaping helping of picthing thrown in for good measure. When mixed with an enthusiastic crowd whipped up to fever pitch by a charismatic head coach, you have the recipe for a special team that could take Omaha by storm.
Even a 2 hour and 30 minute weather delay could not dampen the spirits of fans, nor that of either of the competing teams. Some fans stood in line during the entire delay just so they would not lose their seats.
I have more to tell, but the hours is late.
