Clemson: Dogs And Cats to Battle for Crown

By Craig Jackson - June 04, 2006

The Bulldogs scored early and often, and the Phoenix returned to earth in a 12-3 loss to MSU in the final elimination game of the Clemson Regional.

Behind the 5 hit, 8 inning performance by sophmeore Justin Pigott, the Dogs were able to silence the Phoenix bats, and make some noise with their own. Brian LaNinfa continues with his red hot hitting by dropping another bomb on the roof of the Solid Orange batting facility. On the day, MSU pounded out 17 hits.

After falling behind 6-0 after 2 innings, the Phoenix made some nise by putting up 3 in the top of the third. MSU answered by getting 1 run back in the bottom of the third, but put it away with 5 in the 4th. Elon never threatened again.

But you have to tip your cap to this bunch. THey came in and took on all comers, and never gave up. THey leave here having show how quickly their program has grown into a national program. Good luck to the Phoenix next season.

So now we head to the dead zone between games. Gates will re open at 6:20 with first pitch at 7 PM. Crowd participation will most likely be at a fever pitch, as this game is a rematch of the 2000 Super Regional, played, between these same two teams.

Do I hear cowbells ringing in the background?
