Clemson: Singing in the Rain

By Craig Jackson - June 04, 2006

I'm just sitting here watching the rain fall on the tarp at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

When the front first moved in, it was followed by high winds and rain. In a scene reminiscent of the Blues Brothers barricading the bank door, Clemson players, coaches and feidl crews scrambled to put an assortment of objects on the tarp. There are batting screensm wheelbarows, water coolers, and even a couple of benches. Not long after the tarp incident, the lightning detector atop the Frank JErvey Athletic Center decided to activate. That meant lightning was detected within 10 miles of the detector. As my buddy Snoot said "Ya think?"

Looking at local radar (no I am not a meteorologist, and no I did NOT sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night) shows a small line of storms moving this way. If my estimates are correct, I think a start time of around 8:30 or 9:00 PM is likely.

Of course, you could always hope for the Bull Durham way of getting an extra day of rest.....rainout.
