Fayetteville: Giving Thanks
By - June 05, 2006
This is just a quick "thank you" to all the following people who have made this weekend a lot of fun for me to cover...
I'll start by thanking the guys at CSTV for this assignment. It was amazing and worth every minute of time I could put into it.
Much thanks goes to the staff at the University of Arkansas. Robby Edwards, who works in the Sports Information Department, did an outstanding job of keeping all of us organized and well-prepared when press conferences rolled around. The ushers and campus police did a great job of making sure the stadium was secure while making sure that not one ounce of energy was lost from the crowds.
I thank Josh Maxson, who, despite all the problems with UA's wireless server, worked night and day to make sure we could find some alternative to keep going. Today, the servers worked perfectly, and that's a credit to Maxson.
Thanks go to the great sponsors who fed us this weekend. Catering Unlimited, AQ Chicken, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Popeye's did a great job, and the food was top notch.
A special thanks goes to Don White, a management professor at the University of Arkansas. Not only was White enjoyable to talk to, but he told everyone from reporters to officials about me, and complimented me everywhere I went. You can tell right away that Dr. White is someone who cares about his students, because he did all he could for me, and I can't thank him enough for all the time he put in.
I thank the various members of the media who took their time to talk to me and share ideas/thoughts. KNWA's Bo Mattingly is a class act, and anyone in Fayetteville should be lucky to catch his "Razorback Nation" on a nightly basis. Nate Allen is a terrific reporter and a great person as well. Grant Hall of the Morning News was full of great commentary, and it was fun to trade comments back and forth with him. The young staff of the Democrat-Gazette, led by Chris Bahn, do a fantastic job and they cover all the bases (pardon the pun) like few papers do.
Thanks to Melissa Mathews and Kenlie Posey for an entertaining, yet informative interview. The Diamond Dolls do a great job at Baum Stadium, and they deserve more credit than they usually get. Also, thanks go out to Kyle Thompson, the leader of the Trough, whose efforts make it easy to write stories about U of A students.
A big thank you to all the fans from all 4 schools who came up and wanted to talk, ask questions, or tell me I did something right. They made this less of a job and more of a fun experience...in fact, it was a totally fun experience for me.
Finally, I thank God, my family, and the makers of Coke and Dr. Pepper products for keeping me well-hydrated during this weekend.
If I forgot anyone, know that you were appreciated. And with that, my final analysis is all that is left.
