Fayetteville: Thoughts After 2
By - June 02, 2006
The Hogs threatened in the second, when Hum singled and Parker made it safe to first as the ORU first baseman stepped away from the base. ORU still leads 1-0 after 2 innings.
Jones has done a good job for ORU for forcing Arkansas batters to pop up the ball. 4 of the first 5 outs from Jones were pop-ups, though Jake Dugger's shot went deep to center before being caught at the warning track. Schmidt struggled in the first, but had no trouble getting ORU to go 1-2-3 in the 2nd. He throws a nasty breaking ball that is very hard to swing, but ORU is making him pitch, waiting for the count to go high before taking a swing, while Arkansas batters tend to swing away more at the first pitch. This could be a factor later on, as Jones, if he stays out of trouble, could be able to go deeper.
Schmidt just recorded K #4 to start the 3rd inning...that number will keep rising steadily as we go deeper.
