Houston: By the Numbers
By Jeremy Mills - June 10, 2006
Statistics can lie, but I offer this table as an overview of the two teams.
| Oklahoma | Statistic | | Rice |
| 44-20 | Record | 53-10 |
| .325 | Batting Average | .320 |
| 472 | Runs | 490 |
| .467 | Slugging Percentage | .510 |
| 4.89 | Earned Run Average | 3.02 |
| 461 | Strikeouts (Pitchers) | 594 |
| .983 | Fielding Percentage | .973 |
| 25 | Strength of Schedule (Boyd's World) | 48 |
One thing that I found interesting was that despite the fact that Rice is the "pitching" team and Oklahoma is the "hitting" team, the Owls have scored more runs (in one less game) than the Sooners. Less of a surprise is how Rice's power pitching jumps out -- about 30% more strikeouts than the Oklahoma's staff. Oklahoma plays a tougher schedule in the Big XII, but Rice's schedule is quite respectable.
One hour until first pitch -- let's get it started!
