In the bottom of the eighth, it was the best of times and it was the worst of times for Baylor. They strung together three straight singles, but Eddie Degerman was able to strike out the side to end the threat without allowing a run. One inning to play, and the Owls lead 7-2.

For the first time that I can remember at Reckling Park, the crowd chanted for a curtain call from Eddie Degerman. Eddie obliged -- through eight innings he's struck out fourteen batters while allowing just two unearned runs. Definitely the loudest this Rice crowd has been in a couple seasons at the Reck.
