Houston: Golloway Not So Sunny in Sixth
By Jeremy Mills - June 12, 2006
After a called ball to Owl DH Kenny Ford, Sooner head coach Sunny Golloway was tossed from the game for arguing balls and strikes. The pitch hit the spot where the catcher set up, but was well outside the strike zone.
Will Savage settled down to strike out Ford and Jordan Dodson to end the frame, but the Owls had a five-spot in the inning to take their first lead of the game. Savage labored through 35 pitches in the frame, 60% for strikes.
Heading into the seventh, Rice leads 8-4.

On the ejection - OU asst coach was ejected first (right?), then head coach. How did that play out?

The short version is nobody really knows what happened, even the coaches involved. The confusion in the press area was because we only saw one "heave ho" sign, so it was unclear that there were two separate ejections.
Sunny Golloway touched on the incident a little during the press conference. One of the assistants was ejected first (for arguing a pitch called a ball), and then Golloway went out to discuss the situation. He doesn't know when exactly he was ejected or which umpire did it -- that was what caused him to come back out to get his final two cents in.
Strange episode all around -- both sides were griping about the home plate umpire, but nothing looked too bad on the TV replays (at the very least, it seemed consistent). While it might have affected the pace of the game, the umpiring didn't influence the outcome of the game.
